HookReign Man in the air, Zo down on the block,
One's a highlight reel and one's a padlock.
We pull the tape, we check every stat,
We do the work. You make the call on that.
J Swish for KempNineteen years old, no college games on the sheet,
Seattle took the chance and he took off from his feet.
Glove throwing lobs, Kemp finishing loud,
Every night in the Key felt like a Finals crowd.
Ricky Pierce swung it, one bounce, then the wing,
Windmill on Lister, and he pointed at him.
Ninety-six, sixty-four wins in the West,
Took the Bulls to six when the Bulls were the best.
Six straight All-Star trips, power with the bounce,
Grabbed every board like the last one that counts.
Unc for ZoSit down, young fella, let me tell you 'bout Zo,
Georgetown big, number two, built to stand in the post.
Charlotte to Miami, Riley's kind of man,
Two Defensive Player trophies, sent shots to the stands.
Seven All-Star teams, scowl on every play,
Every possession a fight and he never gave away.
Then the doctors said kidneys, the game went on hold,
New kidney in oh-three, came back just as bold.
Oh-six, Heat bench, still blocking 'em late,
Held the trophy up high. Hall of Fame. Mate.
Both · teammates and tradesSonics nearly shipped him to Chicago for Pippen in ninety-four,
Zo hit the buzzer-beater on Boston, ninety-three, on the Charlotte floor.
Karl on the bench, Schrempf on the wing, Hersey from deep,
Muggsy and LJ, Dell Curry, that's Steph's pops on the sheet.
Ninety-seven, three-team deal, Vin Baker to the Sound,
Ninety-five, Riley makes the call, Zo's in Miami now.
Kemp in Cleveland, East All-Star starter in ninety-eight,
Zo got traded for Vince, never showed, bought out, back to the Heat.
Portland, then Orlando, the Reign Man's final stops,
Oh-six with Shaq and Wade, and Zo is still swatting shots.
Both · posters and goldNinety-two versus Golden State, Gatling swats a layup away,
Kemp snatched it, one step, and-one, and Gatling dapped him anyway.
Ninety-four in Toronto, Dream Team Two, both in red, white and blue,
Both brought the gold home, Kemp All-Tournament too.
Reign Man in the air, every rim had to brace,
Zo led the league in blocks two straight years, sent it back in your face.
Sydney two thousand, Olympic gold, the whole of Aussie in the stands,
Ninety-eight, Zo and LJ squared up, Van Gundy hanging on with both hands.
Oh-six Finals, Game 6, chased down Jason Terry, sent it back,
First Heat jersey in the rafters, number thirty-three, that's a fact.

The Battle Map
We split the game into ten battles. In each one, 100 points are shared between the two players: 50–50 is dead even, 55–45 is a clear edge. Bigger battles count more when the totals are added up.
Weight: core battles count 3, material 2, supporting 1. Weights were fixed before any scoring.
The receipts
The numbers that decided it, from the locked evidence ledger. Read through, then build your own comparison in the Career Lab below.
Kemp could really score
| Kemp TS%, 1996 playoffs (20 games) | .640 |
| Kemp in the 1996 Finals vs 72-win Bulls | 23.3 pts · 10.0 reb |
| Mourning TS%, 1997 playoffs | .529 |
| Mourning TS%, 2000 playoffs | .542 |
TS% (true shooting) = how many points a player gets per shot, counting threes and free throws. Higher is better.
Edge: KempZo owned the paint
| Mourning block rate, 1998–99 | 7.7% |
| Mourning block rate, 1999–00 | 7.8% |
| Kemp's best prime block rate | 4.6% |
| Mourning after his kidney transplant, 2005–06 | 10.2% |
Block rate = the share of opponents' two-point shots a player blocks while on the floor.
Edge: MourningKemp's leaks
| Kemp turnover rate, 1995–96 | 20.4% |
| Turnovers per game, 1996 playoffs | 4.0 |
| Fouls per game, 1996 playoffs | 4.2 |
| 1996 Finals Game 1 | 32 pts, fouled out |
Turnover rate = turnovers per 100 plays he finished. This is why Kemp's scoring edge stays small.
Counts against KempSame value, fewer games
| Career games: Kemp / Mourning | 1,051 / 838 |
| Career Win Shares: Kemp / Mourning | 89.5 / 89.7 |
| Career BPM: Kemp / Mourning | 0.6 / 2.2 |
Win Shares estimate how many wins a player added. Zo matched Kemp's total in 213 fewer games. BPM rates impact per 100 possessions against an average player.
Edge: MourningKemp moved the ball better
| Kemp assist rate, 1993–94 | 12.4% |
| Kemp assist rate, 1997 playoffs | 14.5% |
| Mourning's prime assist rate (often under 9%) | under 12% |
Assist rate = the share of teammates' baskets he set up while on the floor. Useful, not game-changing: neither was a playmaker.
Edge: KempThe Reign Man on the glass
| Kemp rebound rate, 1995–96 | 20.3% |
| Mourning's best prime rebound rate, 1998–99 | 17.5% |
| Kemp offensive boards per game, 1996 playoffs | 3.3 |
Rebound rate = the share of all available rebounds he grabbed while on the floor.
Edge: KempTwo great defences, one anchor
| Seattle defence: 1993–94 / 1995–96 / 1996–97 | 101.5 / 102.1 / 102.7 |
| Miami defence: 1996–97 / 1998–99 / 1999–00 | 100.6 / 98.9 / 101.0 |
Defensive rating = points allowed per 100 possessions. Lower is better. Payton and Karl's pressure built Seattle's; Zo sat at the centre of Miami's.

Career highs
The biggest night each of them ever had, stat by stat. These are one-off games, so they show the ceiling, not the usual.

"Hit 3 times" means they reached that number in more than one game; the date shown is the first. Checked against Land of Basketball, StatMuse and RealGM.
The stress test
Before calling it, we check whether the answer holds from four other angles. These don't add points.
What we can't know
- Modern player tracking doesn't exist for either prime, so how many shots Zo scared off is not recorded.
- Seattle's and Miami's great defences were built by coaches and teammates too. We only credit what we can pin on the player.
